Gardening in February: What to do

[vc_row 0=””][vc_column][vc_column_text 0=””]Garden work in February focuses mainly on soil preparation and proper pruning, so that the plants can vigorously welcome spring.
February is the ideal month to design your garden: explore compositions and plant combinations for flower beds, visit garden centers and browse catalogs in search of new varieties and bright colors.

Below are suggestions for basic tasks you can carry out in your garden this season.
The garden plants are dormant. This month's work focuses mainly on preparing the soil for spring planting and transplanting.
Dig and till and add organic matter to improve soil structure and fertility.
In case of snow, remove accumulated snow from shrubs and trees to avoid branches breaking due to excessive weight.
On milder days, start pruning trees, roses and shrubs. Make sure to disinfect pruning tools and apply MARBEL healing paste to cuts. Monitor plants for possible fungal infections.

Basic garden tasks in February

Trees

(Fruit and ornamental plants)

  • Add organic matter rich in humus to the soil.
  • Lightly dig the soil surface under the orchards for better aeration.
  • Fertilize with FERTILIZER FOR FLOWERING AND FRUIT-BEARING PLANTS 15-5-30.
  • Proceed with tying and bending branches where necessary.
  • Prune ornamental conifers (cypresses, cedars of Lebanon, etc.), applying MARBEL healing paste to the cuts.
  • On damaged branches, clean the wound and also cover with MARBEL healing paste.

Flowering and deciduous shrubs

(Azaleas, forsythias, etc.)

  • Transplant roses and other shrubs with a root ball or in a pot.

  • Now is the time to move rose plants to another location in your garden.

  • Prune the roses, leaving three buds on each branch. If you want to multiply your roses, keep a few branches from the prunings and plant them in garden beds with loose soil.

  • Prune the hydrangeas, reducing the number of branches. Be careful, to make them bloom, leave some of last year’s wood on the branches that you will not prune.

  • Fertilize with BLUE GRAINS fertilizer, which you will incorporate into the soil when digging around your plants.

Bulbous flowering plants

(Tulips, gladioli, carnations, etc.)

  • Prepare the soil by adding organic matter rich in humus.
  • Dig and mix the soil well.

  • Complete the preparation of the bed by incorporating the appropriate granular and water-soluble fertilizers

With proper planning and the appropriate garden work in February, you will ensure a healthy and colorful garden in spring.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
