This is the month characterized by great climatic variability: periods of intense heat alternate with sudden drops in temperature, as well as the classic spring frosts that can negatively affect the success of a garden.
So let’s look at the cultivation tasks that need to be done so that you get the best results from growing plants at home, in the garden, in the vegetable garden and on the balcony.

Garden plants

Trees and shrubs

This period is still suitable for the last transplants of conifers and evergreens. To avoid “transplant shock”, it is important to use 1 ROOT POWER tablet in the hole and water the plant immediately afterwards.

The magnolia offers an impressive view thanks to its white, fragrant flowers, but it needs fertilization and application of IRON CHELIC to prevent the leaves from turning yellow.

The forsythia begins to wither, giving way to lush vegetation. As for other shrubs (jasmine, oleander, etc.), regular fertilization is required to enhance growth with TOP N granular fertilizer.

The first sprayings with insecticides and fungicides should also be carried out to combat aphids, scale insects and fusicladium.

Fences

Complete transplants for new fences. Photinias are developing vigorous new shoots with a striking red color.

For hedges made of Leyland, Thuja and other evergreens, pruning is required to achieve the desired shape.

Prune the tops of climbing plants (ivy, wisteria) near houses if you have not already done so.

Use a nitrogen-rich fertilizer TOP N and apply plant protection products against insects and fungi.

Roses and flowering shrubs

The plants are starting to grow. To enhance germination, apply GRANULATED FERTILIZERS.

On roses, remove the side shoots to develop individual flowers that can beautifully decorate your vase.

Prune shrubs that have bloomed (Forsythia), hedges (e.g. bearberry) and wisteria.

Now the first insecticide and fungicide sprays are being made for aphids, scale insects, and fusicladium.

Bulbous plants

Daffodils, tulips and irises are in bloom or about to bloom so regular fertilization with FLOWERING FERTILIZER is important.

Summer bulbs (e.g. gladioli) continue to be planted alternating varieties of different colors.

Vegetable garden plants

Vegetables in a greenhouse

Create good ventilation with holes or remove plastic cover.

Fertilize periodically with FERTILIZER FOR GROWTH.

It’s time to harvest early varieties of tomatoes, peppers. Support tired plants with ENER 26 containing amino acids and potassium.

Vegetables in an open field

Sowing and transplanting for summer-fall harvest continues.

Prepare the soil with plastic mulch to prevent weeds and support your plants with stakes and soft twine. Incorporate CALCIUM-MAGNESIUM into the soil before sowing

Now is the time to harvest strawberries, onions, lettuce, arugula, carrots, Swiss chard, peas.

Fruit plants

The fruits are developing. Help your trees with the appropriate GRAIN FERTILIZER

Perform fruit thinning on apple, pear, peach trees.

Apply IRON CHELATE to the soil to prevent chlorosis.

Spray to treat diseases and insects.

Citrus fruits are susceptible to aphids. Protect them with the appropriate insecticides.

For the olive tree, interventions with BORON are recommended to promote fruit formation, while an intervention is carried out to protect against coccidiosis.

Protect the young leaves of the vine from Powdery Mildew and Downy Mildew with Thiochalcin products.

Indoor and balcony plants

Indoor plants

(Ficus, Pothos, Dracaena, etc.) develop their new leaves and gradually regain their natural magnificent appearance. To promote the abundant creation of new shoots, it is recommended to make more enhanced fertilizations with LIQUID FERTILIZER FOR GREEN PLANTS, combining the fertilizer with energy products based on algae, amino acids and PLANTONIC vitamins.

To promote the appearance of new buds and prolong the flowering of orchids, fertilize with LIQUID FERTILIZER FOR ORCHIDS.

Even if the radiators have been turned off and the air in the apartment is less dry, spraying must continue to maintain the correct humidity in the space. Be careful not to create cold air currents near the plants when opening windows and doors.

Periodic cleaning of the leaves with polishing products is recommended to remove accumulated dust and improve the growth functions and aesthetic appearance of the plant.

Insecticidal treatments should be started to limit attacks by aphids and pseudococci.

To increase the natural defenses of the plants, use BIFENCE NETTLE.

Balconies

Geraniums, Primroses, Violets, Lobelia, Daisies are the plants that have their place this month. Water and fertilize with LIQUID FERTILIZER FOR FLOWERING.

Transplant carnations, gladioli, callas, asters, zinnias with suitable potting soil and water with nutrient solutions such as FERTILIZER 15-5-30. Now is also the time to sow annual/perennial flowering plants.

Prune climbers (ivy, wisteria).

Succulents

Gradual exposure to the sun, moderate watering.

Fertilization LIQUID FERTILIZER FOR CACCI AND SUCCULENTS.

Lawns

Existing

During this period, spring mowing (frequent and superficial) continues, which should be done weekly. Soil aeration (by drilling or lightly cutting the lawn) is recommended, in order to promote aeration and avoid soil compaction.

For lawns that have been damaged or are sparse, it is still the right time to “reseed”, that is, to scatter new seeds with high germination, which will create new grass and complement the existing one.

In this phase of intense lawn growth, it is important to apply fertilizers with a high nitrogen content TOP N or 30-10-10, to enhance the creation of new shoots and re-sprouting.

New lawns

For new lawns (from scratch), this is the ideal time to sow with seed mixes appropriate for the environment and use (e.g. sports field, shade or sun).

To help a new turf laid in rolls to take root faster, apply MACYS .

Make the first cut at ~10 cm.

Many times we enter the process of applying phosphine at a specific time. Sometimes this is when the product enters the warehouse, after a certain period of time or during a holiday period. But when is the right time to apply it?

How do we start?

Let’s start from the moment of harvesting the product (cereals, legumes, etc.). First of all, we must get rid of last year’s residues. In warehouse materials such as bricks, panels, cement, etc., under the dust, it is possible to find various forms of insects. These are noticeable in cases where we have adults, but not easily when it comes to larval, pupal or even egg forms. For this reason, a very good cleaning of all surfaces with a broom or even better with water using a washing machine must be preceded. After drying all surfaces, the space is suitable to receive new quantities of product. Over time, after the introduction of product into a warehouse, either from last year’s residues or from an insect invasion, the appearance of warehouse insects is very likely.

But when will the phosphine be applied?

A rule of thumb suggested by the U.S. Department of Agriculture is: Phosphine should be applied when 2 adults/kg are recorded on an average of 10 samples. According to this rule, the presence of 2 adults per kg of sample requires the application of phosphine. In the case of a lower population, the cost of application is economically unprofitable in relation to the damage caused by the presence of insects. If a higher population is recorded, it means that we are late and it is necessary to apply phosphine immediately.

How do we take samples?

Regarding the samples that should be taken, the most appropriate method is that of a sampling probe. When there is no sampling probe, samples should be taken from both the upper layers, the middle and the lower layers in some way. When the phosphine is applied at this stage, then we have the maximum result in relation to the level of damage caused by insect infestation in the stored product.

Are you a producer? Do you grow fruit trees, vines, olives, kiwis? If so, surely – like everyone else – you will want a large, early and marketable production for the next year. Differentiating buds in flowering plants is a crucial process. Read below some ways that will help you achieve your goals for better production.

In all perennial plants and fruit trees, in Spring, with the increase in temperature, the gradual development of vegetative & flowering buds begins. The flowering buds in stone fruit trees (peach, nectarine, apricot, cherry, sour cherry, plum, etc.) develop first, while in pome fruits (apple, pear) that have mixed buds, they develop together with the leaves. This means that there are no mature leaves to produce carbohydrates for the development of the flowers and until the initial phase of the fruits.

Therefore, all the work of the plant until then is supported by substances in the roots and bark of shoots (carbohydrates, proteins, minerals) that have been stored since the autumn of the previous year. We therefore understand that the nutritional state of the tree in the previous autumn until the fall of the leaves (hibernation) is of decisive importance for the production of the following year.

Note: Walnut, chestnut, kiwi & quince, on the other hand, germinate and mature their leaves and then develop flowers, thus supporting them until the beginning of fruiting. Despite all this, these trees also need stored substances from the previous year to germinate.

In addition, in order to have enough flowering buds (or in mixed trees, developed meristems for flowers), the differentiation of a sufficient percentage of buds from leafy (as they are initially created) to flowering ones must have been completed. This process usually begins in the summer and is usually completed after the harvest, which relieves the tree of its burden, and until winter dormancy.

Therefore, during this season, which producers usually do not give much importance to, we must supply the trees with necessary lubricating elements from both the soil and the leaves. This will lead to immediate production of carbohydrates & proteins through photosynthesis as long as there are mature leaves and these substances will be stored in the bark of the shoots and the root.

Agroza in collaboration with CIFO proposes special products for immediate storage in the bark and stimulation of the plant for differentiation of buds into flowering plants independently of a nitrogen and trace element fertilization. These products are BIOLIGHT in combination with METIL B.

BIOLIGHT is a biostimulant with all amino acids and 4 essential trace elements with strong energy. METIL B is a slow absorption nitrogen of high purity & functionality. The participation of the above is decisive for the final production of the following year.

Quick application instructions:

BIOLIGHT (200GR/1000L water) + METIL B (5L/1000L water) for 1-2 applications after harvest until just before winter.

Cytokinins and their role

Cytokinins are substances that stimulate the division of plant cells. Their name comes from the words cell and movement. Cytokinins antagonize the action of auxins in the dominance of the apical bud. Local application of cytokinin to a lateral bud that is under the dominance of the apical bud causes its development (Paspatis, 1998). Sometimes a disturbance of the balance between auxins and cytokinins in plants affected by microorganisms causes the uncontrolled germination of lateral buds and shoots (Paspatis, 1998).

In addition to the action in inhibiting the dominance of the apical meristem, cytokinins play a role in the process of cell divisions. Thus, their presence is considered very important during the petal fall phase in fruit trees and vegetables, that is, during the cell division phase in order to promote this process and to induce anti-fruit drop through the increase in the thickness of the peduncle. The addition of a cytokinin preparation such as Macys BC 28 Cifo plays a very important role in the above process. In fact, this addition of cytokinins can be repeated two or even three times in order to optimize the results.

Combination of cytokinins and auxins

Although the action of cytokinins has already been reported as an antagonist to auxins, it has been shown that in parallel with the use of cytokinins, auxins such as those contained in the algae of the species Macrocystis integrifolia can be added. One such preparation is Macys BC 28 Cifo, which plays an important role in increasing the size of fruit trees and vegetables, increasing the number and size of tubers at the beginning of potato tuberization, as well as in many other cases (Temple and Bomke, 1989).

Cytokinins against aging

Another characteristic of cytokinins is that of preventing the onset of the phenomenon of senescence in plant leaves as well as creating resistance to low temperatures of the order of -2oºC. Plants sprayed with Macys BC 28 showed a significant difference in their symptoms of yellowing, from the effect of low temperatures in relation to the control plants. The action of cytokinins in terms of plant resistance to low temperatures is generally scientifically proven (Kuraishi et al., 1966, Kosakivsca et al., 2016, Bocharova et al., 1983).

Therefore, cytokinins such as those in the Macys BC 28 preparation can be a valuable tool, both in resistance to low temperatures, and in improving anti-fruit drop, but also in significantly increasing the size and production in a large number of crops

Cytokinins and auxins for organic agriculture

The origin of cytokinins and auxins is important in the use or not in organic agriculture. The preparation Macys BC 28 Cifo is compatible with organic agriculture and can be used giving an excellent result of combining auxins and cytokinins.

The disinfestation of cereals, legumes, nuts, tobacco and other stored products in food industries or in food warehouses is usually carried out during the summer months when temperatures are high and insect activity is intense. For warehouse insects, temperatures of 20-25 0C are considered excellent for reproduction, but also for food consumption by them, resulting in significant damage.

During the end of September until the first days of October, day and night temperatures are significantly lower than in summer. With the drop in temperature in stored products, reproductive activity slows down, but also food consumption, resulting in less damage to stored products.

But what happens when autumn does not resemble autumn but summer?

In this case, temperatures during the day reach 28 0C and the sunshine heats the warehouses, production areas and containers.

One solution is to wait for the temperatures to drop as they usually do every year and thus avoid another disinfestation with all the effort and expense that entails. In this case, we consider that the damage that can be caused until winter is small and therefore it is advisable not to take any further action.

The other solution is to act immediately. When the external temperatures during the day reach 27-28 0C and in some cases 30 0C, the temperature of the stored product remains high and often reaches 20-250C. After all, both cereals and many other stored products are poor conductors of heat and take significantly longer to cool. These conditions are not only not unfavorable for insects, but on the contrary constitute an ideal environment for them to consume food and increase their population.

What can we do?

From the moment we recognize that there is a possibility of the presence of insects in the stored product, we proceed with the actions to combat it. This begins with the assessment of the size of the infestation and then with the application of a fumigant or other preparation. The choice of the right preparation and its correct application are required each time.

In the case of fumigation application, we choose the preparation that is primarily appropriate for the occasion. When we have bulk cereals in storage, we can use either Phostoxin® Pellet or Phostoxin® Tablet in the form of pellets and granules respectively. If we are talking about products where the presence of dust residues is prohibited, then we choose a covered form such as Phostoxin® Bags or Magtoxin® Plates/Strips – BIOCIDE (Biocide) and Degesch Plate/Degesch Strip (plant protection insecticide). Additionally, the warehouse can be sprayed with approved preparations in order to deal with insects that are impossible to disinfest with fumigation.

In any case, we must act promptly

Otherwise the insects will continue their “summer” activity, will reproduce and destroy our products, while we will believe that they have ceased to exist.

For the normal and proper development of plants, there are 17 chemical elements that are considered essential and are also called nutrients.

In the absence of these elements, normal plant development is not possible and the plant is unable to complete its life cycle. The absence of a single element leads to deficiency symptoms that can only be treated by it, i.e. the element in question cannot be replaced by another element. The function of the element in plant metabolism must be known. That is, we must know exactly what processes it participates in and in which phase of development. Its action should be directly on the plant and not through secondary processes in the soil/substrate.

Below we will refer to one of these elements, calcium (Ca). Calcium is a fundamental element for vegetative growth.

The functions it participates in the plant are many and are mainly associated with the mechanical resistance of plant tissues, as:

It exerts a supporting and reinforcing action on the lamellae of cell membranes.

It acts as an enzymatic activator, as a regulator of carbohydrate translocation and compensation

It balances the absorption of other cations such as potassium, magnesium, ammonium and sodium.

In plants, it accumulates and is stored in cell vacuoles in the form of oxalates, carbonates, phosphates and phytin (the latter is found only in seeds). In cultivated soils, calcium is mainly found in the form of carbonates (especially in calcareous soils), or in the form of sulfates in calcareous soils.

Its content is very variable: it is found in abundance in calcareous and calcareous soils, on the contrary, lower concentrations are found in acidic soils and in soils subject to intense runoff. In general, an average value of calcium in the soil ranges from 0.1 to 0.5%.

This element plays a fundamental role in the thickening and robustness of cell walls, thus influencing the consistency and crispness of fruits and vegetables: it is obvious how much proper nutrition significantly affects both productivity and the shelf life of fruits after harvest.

Its presence allows the acquisition of fruits that meet the requirements of consumers and large retail-wholesale buyers: fruits of large caliber, beautiful shape and intense color, excellent consistency.

Calcium deficiencies in plants

But how and when is calcium absorbed by plants? The moment of greatest calcium absorption is when the plant organs are in active transpiration, but only during the first phases of their development (shoots, young leaves, fruits), where they have intense stomatal activity.

Calcium deficiency in plants is characterized by the appearance of mechanical problems in the tissues, i.e. greater cellular fragility, greater predisposition to damage/breakage at the level of the stem, but mainly of the fruit: drying or twisting of leaves, yellow-brown areas between the veins of the leaves, dry rot (plug) on the lower part of tomatoes and peppers, drying of the spine of the vine, bitter spotting of the apple tree, cracking of the skin of pear and cherry trees: these are just some of the physiopathologies that plants can face if they are subjected to this deficiency during the critical period of their development.

Solutions for preventing and treating calcium deficiency in plants

To overcome these problems, Agroza, in collaboration with Cifo, has invested heavily in research and development and offers us various calcium-based products capable of satisfying any need.

Calcisan Green (calcium and magnesium with Macrocystis integrifolia)

It is CIFO’s revolutionary innovation in the field of foliar nutrition, created precisely to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the calcium and magnesium complex in leaves and fruits. It acts on two different levels: the first is the contribution of calcium and magnesium, the second is their absorption and translocation with a parallel protective action, which is due to the pure Macrocystis integrifolia extract it contains. The preparation is designed for foliar applications, enhancing the effect of absorption and translocation of calcium and magnesium to the right places.

Calcisan (calcium and magnesium with L-amino acids)

It is able to effectively solve the problems related to the high salinity of soils. Calcium and magnesium replace sodium in colloids (humic-clay), favoring their leaching and therefore their removal from the rhizosphere. It contains a calcium and magnesium complex which is produced through an innovative industrial process that makes it even more effective and durable. It is also rich in peptides, polypeptides and free L-amino acids that are easily assimilated at the root level and are translocated to the developing organs. This makes it possible to obtain excellent fruits, with a longer shelf life and resistance to post-harvest handling.

Ideal for fertigation applications.

Calcium Fast (30% calcium chelate)

It is a liquid preparation based on calcium in chelated form, characterized by high absorption capacity for maximum effectiveness in treating physiopathologies caused by calcium deficiency as well as in increasing the consistency and shelf life of fruits and vegetables post-harvest.

Ideal for foliar applications.

Neobit (calcium with boron)

With a high calcium content and a contribution from boron, it is ideal for pome fruits and allows the obtaining of high quality fruits and vegetables.

Ideal for foliar applications.

How can CIFO help with its products so that the vines have the desired BRIX degrees in the wine produced?

What are BRIX degrees?

Brix degrees are a measure of sugar content. The Brix method is used worldwide to determine the ripeness of grapes, the potential alcohol content for wine varieties and the sugar content.

How can we increase BRIX degrees?

We can increase Brix degrees, polyphenol content and color intensity in red wines with the products Cet 46 Green, Ener 26 and Biolight used during the grape ripening phase.

During this phase, plants undergo complex physiological processes, which are influenced by specific environmental conditions such as soil and climate and therefore it is necessary to take care of every aspect that could affect the final result.

To obtain the best quality, both in the cellar and in the bottle, it is necessary to start from the field by controlling the specific nutrition of the plants, following correct manipulations that allow the acquisition of the desired sensory characteristics and avoiding the use of sulfur compounds or other additives.

To avoid stress phenomena or nutritional deficiencies that may affect the final quality of the grapes and must, it is important to ensure adequate nutrition, through the application of three products that are applied foliarly: Biolight, Cet 46 Green and Ener 26. These products act synergistically and have the great advantage of completing the correct nutrition of the vineyard through an innovative mechanism of action that acts on multiple agronomic objectives.

Specifically, they act for:

Ripe uniformity

Improvement in the normal ripening of the flesh and seeds of grapes

Better composition of the phenolic profile of the musts, with positive effects on tonicity and color indicators.

Biolight is an amino acid complex, with magnesium and chelated trace elements formulated in a water-soluble powder that is indicated for the improvement of quality characteristics and can be used in reduced doses through foliar applications. Amino acids such as arginine, alanine and leucine favor the synthesis of precursors responsible for the taste and aromas that are characteristic of the cultivated vine, proline and glycine exert an anti-stress effect, while phenylalanine completes the complex mechanism of action by supporting the synthesis of anthocyanins, responsible for the color of the skin. Dose 400 g/10 acres, 1 application.

Cet 46 Green, an organic specialty product, contains amino acids and micronutrients, specially designed to improve fruit ripening processes, is applied in the final stages of cultivation and allows the improvement of the physiological processes involved in the biosynthesis of ethylene and pigments responsible for fruit coloration. The micronutrients present in its composition act as catalysts for the metabolism of sugars and fatty acids. It also allows the improvement of the quality profile of the final product during harvest, through a higher content of polyphenols and a higher content of sugars in the must. Dose 2 L/10 acres, 2 applications.

Ener 26, consists of amino acids and in synergy with the potassium, sulfur, magnesium, calcium and other elements in chelated form that it contains, favors the development of ripening fruits, allows for better sugar transfer to the fruits and determines the improvement of the color of the grapes and the aromas of the musts. Dose 4 kg / 10 acres, 2 applications.

Good luck!

The lawn tends to slow down its growth and stops when temperatures rise. In these conditions, a state of weakness is created that makes it more sensitive.

For a good result during the high temperatures of summer, special care is needed regarding fertilization, mowing and watering. How can we help it?

To reduce the risk of yellowing and drying, it is necessary to keep the soil always slightly moist and always fertile. We apply the water-soluble fertilizer of AGROZA 30-10-10 for green plants and growth by watering it. We incorporate 10 g of product in 5 liters of water. We repeat every month.

The presence of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and sulfur guarantees the formation of a uniform thick, rich lawn, with an intense and bright green color, resistant to tread and heat.

We are careful when mowing the lawn! It should not be too short, so that the soil does not dry out too quickly and “burn” from excessive sunlight and heat. Also, if the cutting is done when the lawn has already grown a lot, its base may be hard and yellowed afterwards. Regular mowing keeps the lawn stronger, the roots spread out and the growth remains more compact and homogeneous.

In case of very high temperatures, we can use an antistress product based on Macrocystis Algae such as Macys by Cifo and in this way protect our lawn against extreme temperatures. Dissolve 10ml of the product in 10 liters of water and spray.

In general, irrigation should be very regular, never excessive and should be done at times when the soil is able to absorb water better without causing stress to the roots. On the hottest days it is better to water at sunset or early in the morning, thus allowing the water to penetrate the soil slowly without the risk of rapid evaporation. Automatic irrigation is ideal, because this avoids sunburn and the development of diseases.

Good luck!

Growing tomatoes on the terrace is successful, enjoyable and suitable for all ages!
All you need is a few hours of sun and a few rules to protect the health and resistance of the plants.

Tomatoes like the heat and it helps them produce lots of flowers and fruit!

Various tomato varieties are late-ripening and can also be harvested on the terrace until autumn.

For growing in pots, we prefer those with a small size, such as cherry and small cherry tomatoes in various colors.

For a satisfactory result, here are some useful tips.

FIRST TIP: WATER GENEROUSLY, CHOOSING SOIL AND POTS THAT DRAIN WELL!

This is a fundamental principle for protecting the health of the roots, which are sensitive to water stagnation. Therefore, before watering them again, it is a good idea to check the soil: if it is dry, water it, if after 15-20 minutes there is still water in the saucer it is better to throw it away.

We prefer soil suitable for vegetables, rich in organic matter.

SECOND TIP: LUBRICATE REGULARLY!

Tomatoes are great consumers of nutrients and in pots the need is even greater than in those planted directly in the ground.

We recommend fertilizing every 15 days, with Cifo’s liquid fertilizer for vegetable and fruit plants Per piante da orto e da frutto suitable for organic crops and Algatron, a unique algae biostimulant, also suitable for organic crops, which helps fruit formation, growth and ripening.

THIRD TIP: PROTECT THEIR HEALTH AND YOUR PRODUCTIVITY!

In addition to regularly removing shoots that form in the axils of the main branches, it is necessary to monitor the health of the plants by removing them immediately, at the first signs, when we notice dry or diseased spots.

We recommend using products from the Cifo series to prevent the risks of parasitic insects and diseases. Propoli Cifo is an excellent aid to strengthen the immune system for potted tomatoes, based on propolis. Thanks to the ingredients naturally present in propolis, a natural shield is activated against attacks by insects, fungi, bacteria and viruses.

Another ecological way that helps to avoid insect enemies is to simultaneously cultivate marigolds and basil in rotation with tomato plants.

AND SOMETHING LAST!

Never wet tomato leaves with irrigation water and immediately pick up any fruits or leaves that have fallen to the ground dry or rotten. This way you prevent the transmission of diseases!
